Lake Island Ford - is one of Odessa's premier ski sized lakes. At 94 acres in size, it allows for several boating enthusiasts to enjoy using the lake at the same time. Lake Island Ford is one of the last lakes in line before the water contained in the watershed flows through Brooker Creek and eventually reaches Lake Tarpon, and then the Gulf of Mexico. Southwest Florida Water Management District (aka SWFWMD) manages two damn control structures which regulate water levels on this lake. One of the water flow control gates is on the North of cove of Lake Keystone (next to Tarpon Springs Rd), which either allows or restricts water flow from Lake Keystone into Lake Island Ford. The other water flow control gate is on the West side of Lake Island Ford, which either keeps water contained in Lake Island Ford or allows waters to flow out of Lake Island Ford into Brooker Creek Preserve.
